Last year I saw the Sex Workers Art Show tour for the first time and it blew me away. Everyone who performed was fantastic. They shared inspiring, sad, moving, and funny stories about working in the sex industry. One of my favorite acts was a comedian who discussed her job, politics, her friends, and other topics and had the whole audience laughing until they were crying. There was a hot burlesque act and a moving spoken word poem.As the tour itself says: "The show is a critically-acclaimed eye-popping evening of visual and performance art created by people who work in the sex industry to dispel the myth that they are anything short of artists, innovators, and geniuses! This year's tour includes Whitney Biennial artist and burlesque performer Julie Atlas Muz, Michelle Tea, Juba Kalamka, the only existing black burlesque troupe - Harlem Shake Burlesque and many many more. The tour is already part-way through but check out the
website and see if it's coming to a town near you! I know I'll be at the one in New York City.
