As a Masters student at Widener University's Human Sexuality Education program as well as a employee of Babeland, I have had the privilege of meeting so many amazing sex educators. I love it even more when these two paths cross over (and they inevitably do!); then I get to talk about people who have done amazing things in the academic world as well as at Babeland.Introducing Screw Smart (Sex Education from Soup to Nuts!), headed by three amazing women (one of whom is also a former Babeland employee!) from Philadelphia who are moving and shaking on the sex ed scene. Here's a little statement on their mission, which they wrote up exclusively for the Babeland Blog:

Back in the magical year of 2009, three wayward sex educators -- Rebecca Alvarez, JD Ackerman, and Kira Manser -- found themselves drawn to each other by a web of spit, lube, spirit gum, love and pure tenacity. They decided to run with it by creating the sexy education collaborative Screw Smart. Turning the concept of sex education on its ear, this trio of queer ladies offer up sex-positive, pleasure-based experiences that help folks explore all the delicious adventures the world thrusts at our loins. Their collaborative and interactive teaching approach allows them to reach the minds and pants of a wide variety of learners. Presenting educational workshops, as well as demos, community events and edutainment performances, Screw Smart constructs safe, sexy places for folks to celebrate their sexuality and get inspired to set their pleasure centers ablaze.

Want to see Screw Smart in action? Follow their Facebook for updates on their sex ed exploits, or if you're in the Philly area, check out their performance of sex ed burlesque for the Original Plumbing Philadelphia Issue #5 release party on Thursday, November 11th, benefiting the Trans-Health Conference! Sex education, philanthropy, and burlesque, oh my, my, my!
