On Monday, January 3rd,
The Today Show featured a new children's book entitled
My Princess Boy: A Mom's Story about a Young Boy Who Loves to Dress Up, a nonfiction picture book about one woman's journey to understand her 4 year old son Dyson's desire to wear princess dresses. The intent of the book is to "start and continue a dialogue about unconditional friendship and teach children and adults how to accept and support children for who they are and how they wish to look." It's also a way for Cheryl Kilodavis to engage parents and children in a productive discussion around the dangers of bullying and the beauty of acceptance. What an amazing message for people everywhere, going into the New Year. If 2011 is going to be about acceptance and love, then I for one am very excited for what this year will bring! If you'd like to get involved in the ongoing dialogue about child-raising, acceptance, peer pressure and today's youth, check out Rachel's article on the Moms in Babeland blog, entitled
"The Age of Innocence, and Bravery." It's a wonderful and thought-provoking read.
