Guest Toy Review: Kookie Cuffs

Madison Exercises Restraint with the Kookie Cuffs

Meet our first-ever guest toy reviewer, Madison. She, along with our male reviewer, Ross, won our "Be a Toy Reviewer" contest, so they're here to give you the lowdown on which toys get them off! We'll rotate their columns so you get a fresh perspective, and to give them time to play with their toys. With no further ado, here's Madison, with her take on the Kookie Cuffs.

My first experience with bondage was a threesome. Not your typical menage a trois, mind you—and definitely not a sexy one. There was my girlfriend, frantically trying to wriggle into a T-shirt while wearing cheap handcuffs. There was her roommate, picking at the lock of the cuffs with a bent paperclip. And there was me, desperately searching for the key that must’ve slipped off my belt.

Twenty minutes and 20,000 apologies later, I reached a valuable insight which I will now share: If you’re interested in bondage or domination, it’s best to invest in some quality equipment. Depending on what turns you on the most, that could be a length of good rope or a menacing spreader bar. For me, it was the Kookie Cuffs, a pair of gorgeous leather cuffs with silver buckles—fashionable enough to be worn on the street, and tough enough to withstand everything I planned to put them through.

Having agreed to forget that unfortunate handcuff incident, my partner and I approached our new cuffs with fresh enthusiasm. We spent a few minutes checking them for size and comfort and, before long, she was begging me to buckle her in for a test drive. I ordered her to strip and lie down on her back. Then I linked the cuffs together through the handy D-ring and fastened them securely to her wrists. Since my lover can easily overpower me with her strength, seeing her bound and helpless was a novel thrill. She was mine, all mine to tease, torture, and enjoy.

If you like power games and role-playing, accessories like cuffs and collars can really enhance the experience. For one thing, they make the roles more tangible. (When one person is restrained, there’s no question of who’s running the show that night.)  They’re also a great way to define where playtime starts and ends. For example, while my lover’s wearing the cuffs, she knows she’s just a whore, a slave, a filthy dyke. But when I take them off, that means the scene is over, and she’s my sweet, sweet, girl again. What fun!

Ready to shop for some cuffs of your own? Here are a few tips to get you started:
  • Material matters. Get leather if it suits your budget and your politics. Otherwise, consider webbing or rubber.
  • Look for cuffs at least an inch and a half wide. They distribute pressure better and keep the straps from digging into the skin.
  • Rounded edges and/or padding are essential, especially if the wearer likes to struggle.
  • Be creative! Cuffs go great with connectors, ties, spreaders and ropes.
  • For added security, try using a lock on the buckles.  (Just don’t lose that key!)
