Eating the Cake: Rimming 101

Babeland: All About Rimming

Analingus (aka rimming, ass eating, tossing the salad, eating cake, backdooral) is the act of oral sex performed on the anus (aka the bootyhole!).

Anal play doesn’t need to be penetrative to feel incredible – the rim of the booty is super dense with nerve endings that are ready to be added into your pleasure routine, and a partner's mouth is an amazing way to feel them. Kissing, licking, even sucking the booty can drive a partner wild – so why not give it a try?

Before you get your face between some cheeks, there’s a few starter tips that you may want to consider:

rimming

The main question that folks will have about rimming is “isn’t that dirty?” – the answer, simply enough – is that it doesn’t have to be. Taking a shower or bath beforehand will lower risk of sharing digestive bacteria that you may not want in other places. Rinsing the rectum with an anal douche will do so as well and can help provide some added assurance for all parties involved.

You can also use a dental dam to add a barrier between the mouth and the booty- dams are usually made of thin latex or latex alternative, so you can be protected from potential bacteria and/or STIs without compromising sensation.

If you do want to eat it raw, it’s been shown that the more familiar you are to your partner’s body, the more used to their body’s bacteria you become as well, so maybe save raw rimming for when you’re better acquainted. Also, get tested regularly (as you should be if you’re sexually active anyway!)

Like mentioned earlier, those nerve endings are super sensitive and can respond to a variety of sensation, so feel free to experiment, ask your partner for feedback, and see what elicits the best response!

Use your tongue: One of the most popular moves for analingus is circling and swirling your tongue around the opening, but you can also do semi-circles up and around each side, or even flick the tip of your tongue across it. Some people even like to lightly penetrate with their tongue.

Pucker up: The sensitivity of the anus and of the mouth are surprisingly similar, so approaching rimming like making out is often very sexy for both partners. Kiss and gently suck at the bootyhole as you go – ass eating can totally be sensual and romantic.

Reach around: Add in some play with the front bits as well – a bit of fingering, clitoral touch, a handjob, nipple stimulation – with hands or a toy. Go hands-free with a wearable vibrator or vibrating cock ring if you want to have those fingers available for keeping cheeks spread.

Vibrators can feel really amazing on the outside of the anus. Try a vibrating ring made to fit around your tongue, adding sensation to all those sensitive nerve endings surrounding the opening, or tease with a vibrating booty plug, using the tip to circle the rim.

Lube is a game changer for any kind of anal play, including ass-to-mouth. Try some flavored lubricant to add some extra flavor to your cake. If you’re using a dental dam, put a little lubricant (not oil based!) on the side that will go against the anus, which adds to the slipperiness and sensation, and flavored lube on the side where your tongue will work it’s magic

If you’re looking for a lube that cover up the taste of the booty and can work for penetration too? Silicone lubricant is excellent for oral play because it's flavorless and helps the mouth remain slick. Just be sure not to use silicone lube on those nice silicone toys... you'll wanna stick with a water-based for those.

With lube, you can also add in a bit of penetration with your fingers to switch up the sensations to add to your mouth techniques. Just make sure that your hands are clean, and your nails are well-manicured (this means no hangnails or talon-esque acrylics). Latex or nitrile gloves or finger cots can help as a barrier and stay nice and slick with that lube.

Now you know how to rim with confidence. Go on out there and have your cake – and eat it too!
